Big Boy!

I figured I had better post Cody's 2-month check-up info. before I forget!

We were about a week-and-a-half late getting him to the Dr. Between David's work schedule, Cody being ill and other "stuff" going on, it felt nearly impossible to find the time for both of us to take him to the Dr. But we finally made time! We knew going in to the appointment that he would probably not receive his vaccinations that day, because he had been running a mild fever. But we figured that we could have him seen for that and get his measurements done.

Dr. Bryant said that he looks great! He weighed 11lbs and is now 23". His weight was only in the 25th percentile and and head and height is in the 50th. This amazes me because I can very vividly remember just how big his head was at birth. :) Emma has been in the 90th-95th percentile for height and weight since birth! How interesting that they are so different.

The day before we took him to the Dr., Cody began to run a 99-100 degree temperature and had been congested off and on for almost two weeks. He has been sneezing since about 5min. after he was born, so David and I just assumed he was pre-destined to have allergies. Since it is springtime we wrote off his recent congestion to allergies but according to our Pedi. babies don't really have allergies since they take years to develop those sensitivities. Basically we're doing everything we can do. Keeping him elevated, flushing out his nose with saline drops and using the bulb to suck snot (only if we see it since it is so sensitive in there).

One thing that I remembered doing with Emma was keeping her in the bathroom with me after I've run a hot shower. So one night when David was working I let the water run (hot) with the door closed for a few minutes and then Cody sat in his bouncy-seat while I took a bath. The other thing I could try is a humidifier but my experience with that for Emma was not a positive one. It was a big mess and didn't work.

Our Pedi. said it was a good thing that he is coughing. He's been able to spit out the phlegm so that it doesn't settle in his chest. Unfortunately, he's woken himself up during the night a few times coughing, so I'm definitely keeping a close eye on it. The phlegm seems to be lessening, so hopefully we're on the mend!

In less than two weeks our baby boy will be three months old! I can't imagine how fast the rest of his first year is going to go. Before we know it, he'll be standing up in his saucer and then ready to try cereal- woo hoo!

But I don't want to get ahead of myself. Let's focus on the 'now' :

  • Cody is still in size 1 diapers and we're liking the Pampers Baby Dry. We tried the HEB brand (since I preferred those w/Emma) but we can get the Pampers cheaper w/coupons in bulk.

      • He's still doing great with his Enfamil Gentlease formula- he hardly spits up and has no more gas problems! He's taking 4+ ounces every three hours.

      • We're still using Dr. Brown's bottles and occasionally one of the cheap-o evenflo bottles since they had fit on my breastpump. At this point Cody could probably take any bottle since he's not so gassy.

      • I've had his play mat (actually it was Emma's) out for a while now and we need to try it again. The first couple of times I put him on it, I think he got scared or overwhelmed, but he was sleepy and probably over-stimulated.
      • One of Cody's favorite things to do is STAND UP! If he is fussy for no reason, you just have to let him stand up and he makes this adorable face like he is so proud of himself. I need to see if his legs are long enough to reach, because he could totally spend a little time standing in his saucer.
      • He's still sleeping on his tummy. He's been lifting his head since he was born so I still feel really good about it. They can't let him tummy sleep at daycare so he sleeps on his side and back. He must be doing ok with it because he's taking longer naps (less often).
      • Cody sleeps from about 8PM until 6:15 or 6:30AM. Good boy!
      • He is wearing size 3/6 mos and NONE of his newborn clothes fit. :(
      • I bought him some new toys so that we can work with him grasping things.
      • Cody is also rolling over from his back or tummy to his side and his side to his back or tummy. He's been a wiggle-worm since birth so I knew it would be no time at all. The first time I really noticed him do this is when I go in to wake him up and turn him from his tummy to his back. If he's not ready to wake up yet (which he is because if I'm in there it's because he's started to fuss or make noises) he'll just flop over onto his side.
      • Cody is still LOVING music. His Mommy, Daddy, Sister and Grammy and Paw Paw all sing to him and he loves it. He gets so quiet and listens. Daddy likes to put on CMT or GAC and sings country songs to him. He says he can be a country singer and go by "Cody Wyatt".
      • He's also quite the little dancer (gets that from his Daddy). Sometimes while he's standing up, he'll wiggle his hips side-to-side. His teachers hold him and dance with him around the classroom.
      • To top it all off, munchkin has smiling down pat! Right at about 8 weeks he started smiling a lot more! We love it! Happy boy!
I guess that's about it. We love our little stinker!
