On Wednesday, August 18th Emma had her first day of "Big Girl School" as she likes to call it. No tears for any of us! I kept wondering how I would feel because we're supposed to cry, right? They had a "Boo Hoo/Yahoo!" breakfast which I thought was a cute idea. I just know that this is where she is supposed to be right now and it feels so natural for all of us.
The morning routine is a little crazy, but I wouldn't know it any other way. David wasn't able to come to school with us because the Dept. sent him to a training class in East Austin. First stop was Cody's daycare which starts their day at 7:30. I was there at 7:31 because I only have 20 minutes to get him settled and drive Emma to school by 7:50. Emma's classroom seems large and is so adorable. They sit at tables of four (although there are only 3 at Emma's). She is sitting with Hannah and next to Colby- Mrs. Summers' grandson. Emma has lots of buddies in her class that she knew from preschool and her closest girlfriends are in the other two Kindergarten classes- probably a good thing since she inherited her Mama's gift of gab. At first I thought there were only 11 kids in her class, but each morning I count differently; I think there may be 13. LOVE THAT TEACHER-STUDENT RATIO!
Emma's weekly schedule includes Spanish, music, science, PE, cooking and lot's more. This week they have been working on B's. What happened to A? I'm not sure. I'm so proud of her. All of a sudden she seems more independent. I'm surprised she let me walk her into the classroom this morning! One of Emma's favorite teachers has been the science enrichment teacher who teaches them all about animals, bugs, plants etc. so Emma may join her gardening club! During the last week of school Emma brought home tons of plants and her little Oak Tree has been thriving!
Redeemer will definitely keep us busy. Leading up to the first day of school we had parent/teacher conferences, popcicles on the playground and new parent orientation. Soon we will have back to school night, school pictures and PTL meetings. At least I was prepared from previous experience.
It's so bizarre to have a baby and a 5 year old and realize how fast she has grown, our family has grown and all the adventures that lie ahead!
